Sons of the southern winds

From the far south of the world, SSL Team Chile is ready to take on the SSL Gold Cup Final Series.

Known as the Finis Terrae Sailors, the Chilean team comes from a country shaped by some of the most demanding sailing environments in the world, from the waters around Cape Horn and the cold fjords of Chiloé to the strong winds and swell of the central coast.

These conditions have helped shape sailors known for their resilience,

adaptability and strength.

Chile’s geography is as diverse as its sailing conditions.

Strong winds, Pacific swell, changing weather and the challenges of sailing at the edge of the world have created an environment where adaptability is essential.

The team brings together sailors with different backgrounds and experiences, from international championships and match racing to mixed and female crews.

Different personalities, different experiences, but one goal: to work together as one team on the SSL47. That combination of experience and resilience will be put to the test once again, this time in Rio.

At the heart of SSL Team Chile is captain Pablo Lorca.

His relationship with the sea began in the Chilean Navy, where he developed a strong foundation in discipline and logistics. Today, he combines that experience with years of sailing across different formats and international competitions.

A skilled bowman and experienced team builder, Lorca has been involved in successful female and mixed crews, match racing projects and corporate regattas. Now, he takes on the challenge of leading Chile on the SSL Gold Cup stage.

Chile already knows what it takes to compete at the highest level of the SSL Gold Cup.

At the 2023 Final Series in Gran Canaria, the team reached the quarter-finals, showing that they can compete against some of the strongest sailing nations in the fleet.

Now, ranked 26th in the SSL Ranking, Chile has qualified directly for the 1/16 round of the 2026 Final Series. From 26–29 November, they will meet SSL Team South Africa, who have been training at the SSL Training Centre in Grandson this year.

Now, they have another chance to write their name on the SSL Gold Cup stage.
