Sweden may be a small country in the north, but its sailing tradition is anything but small. Now, SSL Team Sweden is back on the road to Rio, ready to fight for its first SSL Gold Cup title.
Ranked 7th in the SSL Nations Ranking, the Vikings will enter the Final Series directly in the 1/8 Finals, racing from 2–5 December.

The Swedish team brings an impressive mix of experience, youth and championship pedigree. Olympic gold medallists, match racing champions, America’s Cup sailors and some of Sweden’s top dinghy sailors come together on the SSL47.
Leading the team is Max Salminen, an Olympic gold medallist and multiple-time Finn champion. Today, he is also racing on the M32 catamaran circuit, bringing experience from a completely different style of sailing to the team.
Alongside him is Freddy Lööf, a Swedish sailing icon with three Olympic medals across two classes.
But the Vikings know that medals alone do not win races. Their philosophy is simple: hard work, dedication, willingness to learn and strong teamwork.
There is no room for divas onboard a Viking ship.

The last time we saw Sweden was at the SSL Gold Cup in Gran Canaria in 2023, where they finished 20th.
Three years later, the Vikings return ranked 7th and with a place secured directly in the 1/8 Finals.
A lot can change in three years.
Now, the question is: what will the Vikings bring to Rio?
